how to seal gaps around an outlet cover plate?

The outlet behind the refrigerator is not seated against the wall, and has 1/4-inch gaps around it. I would like to seal off that 1/4-inch gap (it’s on a shared tenant wall). I was thinking of duck taping around the cover plate…? What can I do to seal off the gap?

Do you mean the cover plate PROTRUDES 1/4″ away from the wall? That means the receptacle was not installed correctly. Call landlord. You can use tape temporarily.
