Is being tall a requirement for safety?
I know I’m short I’m 5’5 and I’ve spoken to my coach and I’m gonna play and he says my weight is good enough and my speed, and ect. But I was making up my mind between Safety and Corner and I chosse Safety cause it’s fun and you get more tackles, but the thing is that I couldn’t go to the camps cause my heart problem but I’ll probably be good to go, and it won’t affect me.
But is being tall a requirement for safety? And what should I take, Free Safety or strong?
You don have to be that fast as who ever said. It’s good to have decent speed because you mainly drop to a zone coverage most of the time. Free Safeties mainly are for coverage so being a bit taller will help. Stron safeties are practically like an outside linebacker. You don’t have to be that tall at all for SS, aslong as you can hit and tackle. Ha I was 5’5 as a freshman and played safety. Had no problem, I was averaging 4 tackles a game.
If your strong though and you can hit and tackle very good then you should play SS. If your fast and are able to help with pass coverage and can play zone coverage you should FS.
If you are fast you should just play corner. Against most teams we play , the cb’s are no taller than 5’8. In the NFL few are over 5’10 for that matter
For you though I would reccomend strong safety. If you can’t play there best off at CB.
