Every year, people lose their belongings, homes, and even loved ones to house fires. Though there are many sources of the fire, including electrical issues, Christmas tree lights, and simple negligence, a number of those fires can be attributed to the use of fire places in the home. On the other hand, fires are an affordable source of heat, they provide an old-fashioned, classic, comfortable ambience, they are a gorgeous part of the home, and many people don’t want to let go of the comfort, convenience, and affordability of a fireplace. But when children are in the home, their safety needs to be of the most paramount interest. You can promote safety with electric fireplaces, without losing any of your practicality, functionality, or beauty of a regular wood-burning fireplace.

The first thing to do is research the electric fireplace inserts and make sure you have the proper size for your fireplace. Second, make sure that you have an outlet near the fireplace. All electric fireplaces require a regular wall outlet, and so if there isn’t one next to the fireplace, your electric fireplace won’t work. Third, you can promote safety with electric fireplaces by making sure you seek out a fireplace with the following features: a thermometer that will regulate the amount of heat generated by the heater, protective glass that will keep small hands from the heating element, lighting that is separate from the heating function, and either a one year or two year warranty.

You do not have to have a professional install your electric fireplace. If you want to have the benefits of a fireplace and you don’t actually have one installed in your home, you can still use an electric fireplace in your home. There are many free-standing, corner mounted, or wall mounted options to choose from.
