can i use digital thermometer to measure my childs rectal temperature?how will i do it?
i dont have the usual thermometer, what i have is a digital thermometer but i dont think it measures accurately, because today my daughter seems hot but when i took her temp, it came out 36.5C.wht is the normal body temp for babies?
Can you check the brand online to see if it can be used rectally?
If so, wipe the baby’s bottom, sterilize the thermometer (alcohol), apply a bit of KY or similar lubricant to both the baby’s bottom and the thermometer and gently insert the thermometer. Depending on Your Baby, you can do this in a tummy lying position (better) or in a diaper changing position. Of course, remember to press the button to get the thermometer ready before insertion (you don’t want to do that twice). The thermometer does not need to go in deeply to get a very accurate read.
Once you’re done, wash the baby and the thermometer all up! You might want to make a mark on the thermometer so you remember that it’s the one you used rectally.
I hope this helps – but, again, be sure that the thermometer is safe to use rectally.
