How to Open Trunk On a ’96 Camaro?
The button that opens the trunk of my car doesn’t work anymore. So now I have to use my key to open the trunk. That wasn’t a problem until the badass bebe kids across street stuck a stick or something into the lock. Now I can’t open my trunk and Camaro’s didn’t get a safety latch until ’00. Is there any other way to open my trunk without needing a professional?
My first thought…is try to ‘drill’ out the stick. Using a very small bit such as 1/16 inch, try and drill out the wood. You do not need to use a power drill but try and hold the drill in a vice grip or pin vice and carefully turn the bit get the wood out. You should be able to do this without screwing up the lock. Compressed air may help remove the wood chips the drill makes. If that does not work or the lock was damaged by a screwdriver etc. then go ahead and drill out the lock with a larger drill bit such as 3/8. You will need to purchase a new cylindar and key but that should not cost too much. You could try and check the switch end of the power release but I doubt that is the problem. Good Luck.
